I don't know. May be spend time together. Drive out, especially on days that are marketed to be special - Valentine's, Mother's. New Year, Pongal, Diwali... Do things on time and have a "secure" living. Eat food other than their own cooking, for a change or the surprise element and most of the time, learn and repeat if it turns out to be good and easy to make.
One way of spending time with is - watching a film or anything on t.v both would like. The film/show itself may not be "quality" but to watch it with your spouse - the experience - and the occasional comments - makes it better. Modern world traditional merry. And so the Romantic Comedy Chic flicks.
Anyway... now the problem is finding a film that the male counterpart would also like, instead of just giving company. That is somewhat difficult - and if you have children, there is a huge competition from animation films and you always give up.
A recent favorite of mine has one of the (old) articles reading like this...
Although conventional wisdom says otherwise, men really do want to watch romantic comedies. Unfortunately, they're not the same ones that women want to watch: for every two dozen movies like The Proposal or the upcoming The Ugly Truth, there's maybe one or two like High Fidelity or Almost Famous. This week, men can add 500 Days of Summer to their shortlist of testosterone-driven rom-coms, thanks to its story of a neurotic twentysomething named Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who falls deeply – and increasingly desperately – in love with a comely young lady named Summer (Zooey Deschanel).
Indian movies are of only two types. Either chic flicks or bad movies ;) Not to be mean, that's the culture or the industry, i guess. May be why most (indian) women prefer indian films even after living here in U.S for so many years ;)
Anyway... y'day we saw "My One and Only" on DVD. I like Renée Zellweger and she likes any good normal movie that has drama and real people. No war films. No sci-fi. Nothing out of the normal. There are very few actresses who are like'able. Definitely not Sandra Bullock who had a new high last year with The Proposal & The Blind Side. Desperate Housewives is too one sided and often tries too hard to make meaning at the cost of the supporting cast. Not to mention the dark psychological pretentious "dramatic" approach. Some of my favorite girls are Michelle Pfeiffer. Keri Russell in Waitress. Well, mainly coz of Adrienne Shelly's direction. Deepika Padukone & Love Aaj Kal. So very few and rare. Is where Renée Zellweger is mighty pleasing. Subtle and effective, never compromising the feminine. Liked her instantly when i saw Jerry Maguire. Chicago and Cinderella Man are the other memorable ones. My One and Only, her show all the way through. A valentine's day flick guys can enjoy too. I did.
An after-thought: This is where Hitchcock scores heavily, of course among so many other areas. Pretty much all his films, any adult can watch. There is so much going on for everyone without being gross.
